Pam- Vaseline is a great lubricator do to the fact that it doesn't damage the rubber seals on anything thus it is sometimes used in the automotive world.

for small pistons however, it can sometimes slow them sllightly and a thinner oil will work better.

Petroleum products can soften or damage rubbers and polymers.
Vaseline is petroleum.
KY jelly or some other personal lubricant would also work.

Try lithium grease, I've heard of people using it an it came highly recommended.

psycix vasoline does not damage the rubber. Using oil like motor oil will damage the rubber however.

the best thing I've found is air tool lubricant... And just think, it's made for use in pneumatics...

I've used lithium grease and silicone grease for piston lube. Both work excellent.
Silicone grease can be found at the automotive parts counter as "Dielectric tune up grease".
Of the two, I prefer the silicone grease as it never seems to need to be replenished. Lube it and forget it.
I do use light petroleum based oil in my stirrup pump. (10w non detergent)
