I need to find a way to go from a paintball tank to a npt and have the pressure regulated below 250psi. I would like to stay under $40 if possible. I am not counting the cost of a C02 tank as part of the $40

Good luck. Best bet is classified ads for used keg regulators. Many are adjustable in the 0-100 PSI range. Some go higher. New they are almost in your price range, but sadly will need plumbed to the paintball fitting at additional cost.

The doohicky you would need to go from tank to NPT.

I would seriously recommend a regulator from the same site as well. It's going to be a little out of the price range (so you should check eBay...) but they are still suggested over any other.

Personal opinion: I wouldn't trust my life to any CO2 regulator that cost $40. And if you're putting that CO2 in a PVC chamber, that's exactly what you're doing.

I'm welding with one I got second hand for $15. Try to buy a good regulator but pay used prices for it and test it thoroughly. The brass regulators I use retail for over $100 US each. I bought a used torch for less than $100 with tanks and regulators. I then picked up another regulator for $15 that I use. The $15 regulator is better than the one that came with my torch. I use the original torch regulator with propane for brazing and soldering. I'll post pics of both later.

Sure, I'd weld with a cheapo reg too. Worst thing that happens is you get a crappy weld. But using the same reg to fill a pressure vessel that you KNOW will rupture in your proximity should it allow your source gas in unrestricted? That's a whole 'nuther ball o' wax.

No pvc would be holding pressure in this setup. Does any one know why the adapter to go from the tank to the pipe thread costs $15? As far as cheap regulators being unreliable i plan to use one regulator to bring the pressur into the 250psi range and use an air compressor regulator to adjust the pressure
