hi

I am planning to order a qev valve from America because they are too expensive around here. But i was just wondering if the threads on the qev valve would go together with the European(possibly Swedish) pipefittings and thread dimensions?

Surely you can find a European source?

In the US they use NPT thread.
In Europe we use BSP thread.

You should really try to find your a closer source.

Assuming Australia/New Zealand BSP works with European BSP, which I don't see why the hell it wouldn't, you'll be fine with an American QEV.

I've used American fittings in conjunction with many Australia/New Zealand BSP fittings just fine. Sometimes the fittings thread together a little to easy or a little to hard but it's nothing teflon tape can't fix and i've never had any problems beyond that.

BSP is BSP, there shouldn't be a difference between Aussie supplies and European ones. Plus adapters are always available.

Sometimes you can thread NPT into BSP, or at least for a few turns. It isn't reliable or leakproof, but as Crowley said, with a lot of PTFE tape some combinations can be used.

For example 1/4" NPT has 18 threads per inch while BSP has 19 TPI and the diameters are roughly the same as well. This makes them semi-compatible.
At 1/2", both use the same pitch, thus being even more compatible.

When you use such small diameters like 1/4", you can risk breaking the fitting if you try to thread it too much. So if you buy 1/4" brass fittings, I would recommend buying the rest of your 1/4" fittings that attach to this fitting in the same thread (BSP or NPT).
