i was attempting to seal a 1/2" faucet washer to a 3/4" oak piston at 600 psi.
(The 1/2" faucet size washer OD is 3/4")
I was using an 8-32 screw and a nut to secure the washer to the piston.
The nut was in front of the piston with the screw and its threads protruding a little.
At 600 psi soap bubbles were seen coming through the threads and underneath the nut.
In a flash of insight, it occurred to me that I had everything reversed.
Why have the leak path enter the open barrel?
Using a large 8-32 screw flat head against the rubber to make the seal,
the leaking threads problem is solved!
The trick was to capture the nut inside the piston so it would not turn when tightening the screw.
Remember, keep the heads up!
