Spring pressure in a vortex cap

I recently built a vortex cap BBMG it does not jam frequently but I wanted a plunger to improve performance. My question is: how strong does the spring need to be? because when I tried to use a toilet paper holder spring it completely stopped the gun from firing. The mag is 3/4"x21/2" and the spring is about 4". I'm guessing that the spring needs to be very weak. I have done a search but I couldn't get a good answer. Thanks.

With a spring plunger you may need to upgrade to using a vortex block. They're relatively straightforward to construct and will improve the performance of your bbmg.

A spring plunger in a cloud setup would compress the bbs together so there is less agitation when the air is introduced. Granted the spring will go backwards if the pressure is great enough, but generally bbmg chambers aren't exerted to much.

The spring has to be strong enough to push the bbs towards the barrel, but weak enough to not compress them to thoroughly. Use a vortex block and this problem is nullified.

Thanks. I definatelly see what you mean about a vortex block and while it won't help the vortex cap Il definatelly implement an effective spring in my next one:)

Oh wow I must have not been paying attention. Thats twice I've faulted.

I thought you were reffering to an inline setup.

I'm not all too familiar with the vortex cap setup, though I understand it's workings. I still think that the spring might be too strong to allow for enough aggitation, although a toilet paper holder spring would in theory be very light.

I had the same problem with mine, it wouldnt fire if I had a spring, weight or too many bbs in it, the only way I found to fix this problem was to up the pressure

Yeah I might just try cutting the spring down. If that doesn't work then I'm just going to use it as-is unless I can find an appropriate spring in some toy.

Do you have shims on your cap? Because that will make a big difference.

No it's just 31/4" pipe all the way to the cap. I actually haven't thought of using shims but it sounds like a good idea Ill try to add some though.
