Marshmallow Guns

[Mountain Storm]

My son is in Cub Scouts and they are always trying to raise money. So I made them some Marshmallow guns to sell. It was a fun project and I even made a "machine gun" version with a 24 round "magazine" that fires burst of 5 or 6 with the shop compressor. Amazing how much force a mini marshmallow has at 150 PSI

I've got a short vid uploading of the 150 PSI shot (not with the MG though). Fun stuff.

Ended up making 13 of them today. I'm still gassed from all the paint fumes. Duplicolor Metalcast is strong medicine.

Thanks guys. They cost $2.50 in parts not including paint. I'm thinking maybe $10 with a bag of Jet Puff Minis. What do you think?

1/2" PVC (32" per gun)
2 Elbows
2 Tees
2 Caps

1-11.8" Barrel
1-5.8" Mid
2-4.5" Handles
1-2.8" Mouthpiece
2-1.5" Connectors (for the elbows)
(Idea is to get one gun every 32" of tube)

Sand mouthpiece.

Wipe off printing with lacquer thinner.

Slip Fit.

There are many iterations of this. Some have the elbow on the back going to a handle and use a Tee and a 3" piece before and after instead of my continuous middle piece. Only benefit I see to dropping the Marshmallows into the middle of the mid pipe is they are less likely to fall down into a handle before you can puff them out. But my design has a smoother flow. I doubt it really matters either way that much.

started as a chuckle... turned into a laugh... and when all was said and done I felt a bit sick...

great idea for the cub scouts tho!

However I would recommend having a "help me build it" day with the kiddos. Kids LOVE to build, and this is simple enough to have a little assembly line going. Be cute to see a table of kids all working on a project together! (unless its foreign children... then its less of a "club" and more of a "labor camp"... but I digress)

Maybe instead of an assembly line... you could have stations set up, and have each kiddo work thru the process of building one from start to finish (adults spray-painting naturally). All it would take is one adult @ each station acting as a safety monitor less work for you... kids earn a badge... scouts budget grows... NEW SPUDDERS!!!... I see nothing but good things here

We went to a fair a few years ago and one of the vendors was selling them for $10 each. We didn't buy any, but very quickly made a bunch for my kids and friends.

They are not glued together so the kids can customize them by mixing and matching parts. You might not want the kids to spray paint them, but with exacto knives and masking tape, they are quite willing to get very creative at masking them for painting. I did one and the kids did the rest. One hazard with nothing glued, is the possibility of lost parts. One of the kids did lose a handle and was unable to locate it. It is what we get for having the "Paintball" war in a tall grassy field.

With one handle instead of two, we found it easier to use. One hand is used to load marshmallows and then that hand hold the mouthpiece while the other aims the barrel. We tried a two handle version and didn't like it. This was faster operating in a skirmish.
