I need some help with mounting a scope. Currently the solenoid is in the line of sight, along with the pilot hose. Any suggestions on how or where I should mount it? Or should I use a laser pointer hose clamped to the end of the barrel?

Most scopes require a rail, which can be built pretty easily. Most hardware stores sell bar stock of some sort, but if you can find the aluminium bar stock with one side missing, you can attach that to the top of your barrel with hose clamps, and if you tighten them down, the bar stock will align with the barrel. Scopes have little clamps on them that will attach to such a rail, like so:
Just make sure you can get your eye close enough to the scope to make effective use of it. Recoil and eye protection can be prohibitive of this.

If your barrel diameter is fairly small,
this is the most elegant and cheapest solution I'd seen.

The barrel diameter is 3/4, ID, OD is 1". Any suggestions?

If I recall correctly, you got a rifle stock from a gun store. Ask them about side mount scopes, I've been looking a a nice 4X with side mount for a few projects.
Because Google images is being noobish, I can't get a picture. The people in the shop will know what you're after though.

I'd look at something like
this or
this. Since they're for shotguns they should give you a little bit more room to play with. You could also look at a bunch more scope bases
here if you're interested.

you could just buy a couple rails, 3/8" ones (standard) are very cheap and can just be epoxied onto your barrel/chamber

You can buy two of
these, if your barrel is 1" O/D they should fit perfectly on it, allowing you to mount a scope in the upper rings.
Alternatively, you could buy a
length of rail and use
scope mounts to attach it to the barrel, then mount whatever sight you want on the rail.
