loading and installing O-ring for coax
I'm currently building a gun with a coax piston valve to shoot .3 calibre ball bearings the last thing i think i am having trouble with is finding a way to load the ball bearings into the barrel. i would like to be able to put it in behind a o-ring or bead of silicone to help performance and so the ball bearing won't fall out if i tilt the gun down. i was thinking a slot in the barrel and a sliding cover close to the chamber but this would give dead space and i don't know how well the sliding cover will work.. any ideas or is this the only way

If the bearings are steel, a small magnet works wonders.

well you might as well use the oring as the valve (it's called a detent)
JSR will agree with this

JSR agrees, of 0.3" ball bearings, with a good enough detent (o-ring sandwiched between threaded fittings) you can get amazing performance using just a blowgun as a main valve, as well as the potential for semi or full auto fire.

thanks for that i wasn't quite sure if 'detent' refered to the o-ring design i thought it was just for a dent in the barrel.it's called a detent

i've already got most the stuff for a piston valve. but maybe for my next gun i kinda want a semi auto bb gun type of thing. would you be able to post a picture or link to the o-ring sandwiched between threaded fittings and are they adjustable. i know the detent would increase the performance by a lot but would there be a way of figuring out how much. i first thought that the coefficient of friction in GGDT would be it but i realised that it is the coeffiecent of friction for the whole barrel.you can get amazing performance using just a blowgun as a main valve

If the detent pops at your operating pressure, use a generic valve with zero opening timeshiny455 wrote:i know the detent would increase the performance by a lot but would there be a way of figuring out how much. i first thought that the coefficient of friction in GGDT would be it but i realised that it is the coeffiecent of friction for the whole barrel.
