how do bolt actions on airguns work?
when you use the bolt to push the ammo forward (assuming the bolt is solid) no air can get behind the projectile in order to get it moving.
i cant seem to figure it out...

You can have a conical bolt face with a stem:

ive thought about this idea... but on larger scale wont the air flow be terrible and if the hole is too big the ammo will fall through?

Um...if your projectile is 0.500", make the hole 0.499" - the projectile won't fall though and there will be no appreciable difference in airflow.

You could also have say a 0.75" hole and just put a single thin wire rod across it...

On another note, looking at the Crosman 1337 diagram - damn that's poor design in terms of efficiency!
