can't compare with btb counter blance but easier to build , and safe,i think
i have alot of 1/2' brass fit , problem is o ring and ..piston( white things , don't know what they call)
wyz2285, may be you can do 1 for your solenoid valve
i dont have a drill press, it will much much harder

The middle seal should be a flat rubber washer.
( then increase the pistondiameter accordingly)
Never use O-rings to slide over a hole or in and out of a pipe unless you have to.
Oh...and cut down the distance between the valve and the barrel as much as possible.

I have made a simular design with the same problem a wile ago...

Is this more to do with the way the CBHV valve functions, or just general advice for friction/wear issues?
I wondered about this since I was considering a design in which an o-ring passed over some small holes... I figured I'd be fine as long as I rounded off the holes on the inside.

You be fine, slide valves has o-rings that pass though holes all the time.

A slidevalve has the O-rings slide over the outside. That tends to be more forgiving.
It can be done succesfully but if wear and tear can be avoided altogether it is always better.
It depends on the precision of the parts and the application.
