Not to sound like a total arse, but if you wanted to check the integrity of a pipe...steam is the absolute MOST dangerous way to do so.
Not only does the heat reduce the safe working pressure of the pipe, but high pressure steam is a VERY energetic medium when suddenly released to atmosphere.
Get yourself a grease gun, fill the pipes with oil and pressurize with the grease gun...with the air properly eliminated from the system, any failure will be very anticlamatic.
