Anyone seen his work before or know who he is? Seems like some interesting creations and a good bit of professional level machining involved (at a university I'm assuming?)
Thank you for founding and mentioning me Mr.mobile chernobyl !
I have been wanted to discuss about pneumatic cannons at this web site for a long time. So today, I introduce you the situation of development of pneumatic cannon in Japan.

In Japan, although the number is small, there are people who make pneumatic cannons. But there are some difference compared with the common pneumatic cannons. Because gun-like equipments which accelerate projectiles are illegal in Japan, the objective of our pneumatic cannon is to generate intense impact and shock wave, and we call these equipments "Exhaust Cannon" as a equipment that fire off the compressed air.
As a result, many unique working principles of pneumatic cannon have been developed in Japan. And I have been tried to invent new working principles which improve the cannons. For example, I succeeded to add semi and full-automatic system with no electric devices. And I have invented several new principles which make the nozzle opening time shorter for the purpose of making intense shock wave.

Now, I introduce my 11th pneumatic cannon,"Exhaust Cannon Mk.11." I have been fabricated many exhaust cannons, and this 11th one is the my first semi-automatic cannon. And it has some contraptions to realize intense shock wave.

Exhaust Cannon Mk.11 with wearable air chamber.(The chamber is shouldered and it is behind me.)

This is Nozzle. I fixed a metal mesh sheet on the nozzle in order to make it unable to load anything.

Image
I fabricated the wearable air chamber system for Mk.11. As you can see, the air chamber is made from fire extinguisher. We can change the air pressure by controlling the air regulator valve.

Image
we can carry wearable air chamber system with a special case.

One of the characteristic-feature of this cannon is the semi-automatic mechanism with no electric valve. As the guns don't use electricity for high robustness, I prefer a pneumatic system with no electric devices when I design the Exhaust Cannon.

Image
Maybe, you in this forum can easily understand the firing principle of this cannon from only this photo. By pushing the valve which attached to the cannon, the piston unit at the center of the chamber starts to thrust back, and the nozzle is opened in the end. This system is just a single-action pneumatic cannon.

Image
To realize the semi-automatic reloading, I added a special pneumatic cylinder. The right side system is the pneumatic reloading system. It has a role to push the piston unit back to the chamber.

So, please check the action.

This movie shows the action when the pneumatic reloading system was detached. You can see the Mk.11 generate huge sound and it is working on single-action.

And this is the action of pneumatic reloading system. Piston unit is pushed back rapidly.

And these are the latest action of Exhaust Mk.11.

We can enjoy not only the intense shock wave, and also the intense recoil shock.

And now, I'm Planning to translate my website or YouTube channel in to English. So, when the translation was finished, I will make the announce here.
If you have any questions, please ask me.

Welcome the the forum :)
Nothing worth saying about your creations, pretty beasts. I'd make it a little more compact tho  with direction control valves and a paintball tank (might be restricted in Japan not sure if I remember correctly).
Good to see another Asian member.

Welcome aboard. :)

Nice workmanship and design. I did take notice of the way you vent off your pilot volume...smart. 8)

Thank you for your reply wyz2285. I'm grad to receive the first reply at this website.

The concept of this Exhaust Cannon Mk.11 is to realize both semi-automatic firing and high speed valve opening for intense shock wave. The direction control valve is pretty good tool for realizing the semi-automatic cannon. However, the flow rate that can handle by DCV is a little small, and therefore I adopted the special valve system that can handle larger flow rate to Mk.11, and we call this valve AEV(Augmented Exhaust Valve). I think that this AEV system has already discussed in this forum as another name, anyway I introduce the principle.
Fig.1.jpg
You will understand the working principle of the AEV from this figure. This AEV's advantage is its high flow rate of exhaust at the back-end. As you can see at the figure of 6(AEV発動), the compressed air behind the biggest piston through the back end port, and it is rapidly exhausted. The fast exhaust of compressed air behind the main piston is the most important in terms of making the acceleration of piston unit larger.

I believe that the DCV is the best method to add the function of semi-automatic to pneumatic cannons, but it is only for the cannons that have small volume behind the main piston. And when we design the cannons with large volume behind the main piston, we have to adopt the another valve system which have large flow rate like AEV.

From these reasons, I didn't adopt the DCV as a valve that realize semi-automatic action.

Shyasuna - Thank you for joining!

Your work is amazing, and the level of quality is as well.

I love the quality of the drawing you posted above as well - looks like a very well designed and thought-out iteration of a Toolie valve - http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/inde ... ston_Valve

As Gipetto mentioned - your pilot venting method is ingenious as well - it incorporates some of the best aspects of the piston valved hybrids we have on this sight!

Again - Welcome to spudfiles! :thumbright:

Thank you for your reply Gippeto, ToasT and mobile chernobyl.

I'm glad to know the name of "Toolie Valve". We have called the cannons with this kinds of toolie valve as "Single Cylinder type Exhaust Cannon(単管式エグゾーストキャノン(単 is Single, 管 is cylinder, and 式 is type))" in Japan. Because of its low difficulty of fabrication and relatively big chamber volume, the cannons with toolie valve is the most popular one in Japan.

Additionally, there are also cannons with barrel sealing valve and Chamber sealing piston valve those are defined here http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/inde ... ston_valve
And we call them "Double-Cylinder Type(二重管式(二重 means Double))" and "Γ- Shaped Type(容量可変式(容量 is variable, and 容量 is volume))" respectively. And I also defined their mechanisms at my website. So if you have interested, please check them ↓!
http://www.uzmlab.com/exhaustcannon/mechanism
Fig.1.jpg
And I also know that the valve similar to my AEV system has already discussed for the hybrid cannon here↓
http://www.spudfiles.com/hybrid-cannon- ... 25459.html
The principle is coequal, but the configuration is different a little bit. The biggest difference is the existence of acceleration interval of piston which seals nozzle. By providing this acceleration interval, we can accelerate the piston unit until the nozzle is opened, and it results in an intense initial rise of firing. In addition, this method is adoptable for all types of pneumatic cannons, and in particular, it is compatible with AEV system. By using this AEV mechanism, we can fabricate intense cannons relatively easily regardless of its size. And the acceleration system will also improve the action of hybrid cannon (It will maybe cause collapse of piston…).

However, when I tried to add semi-automatic action to cannon with AEV, I could not find the essential and elegant principle. So as a ad hoc solution, I added the pneumatic cylinder behind the AEV's rear piston to push it back to the chamber. But now, I found and developed the elegant principle that can realize not only semi and also full-automatic action with no electric devices last year! So, I'm planning to introduce them later.

By the way, I searched the meaning of "Toolie", but I couldn't find the meaning other than "An engineering student". So if you know, please tell me why the valve system was named as Toolie valve ?

Shyasuna -

Toolie I believe is just the name of a person - as you may have found. Here on spudfiles, it is a small community, so new discoveries tend to be named after those that first introduced them to the spudfiles community.

You're using a schrader as a pilot valve!

Thank you for your reply jackssmirkingrevenge.

I often use schrader valve as a simple trigger. The below videos show the usage of schrader valve as a trigger of AEV which was mentioned above. Once the schrader relieve the pressure of pilot volume a little bit, the piston unit starts to move, and the end piston pop from end of cylinder. It results in rapid relieving of pressure of pilot volume.

And these small cannons are also using schrader as a pilot valve. To make it enable to push the inner pin directly, I cut the outer cylinder. (After I completed them, I came up with that the french valve is better because the inner pin is already appeared.)

When the pilot volume is small, the schrader is very useful tool.

In the video you mentioned, I conducted the comparison between releasing of air-hose coupling and schreder valve as a pilot by using my Mk.18 cannon. The working principle is different from the AEV, and it has 2-stage exhaust system. I tried to relieve the first piston's pilot volume, but the schreder valve's performance was clearly inferior as compared with coupling.

The MK.12 looks like a pengun  Jack would be proud :D
Of course a coupling would be a better pilot than a schrader valve. Still, very impressive piloting a piston of such size with just a schrader valve.
