guide rod

Inside my sprinkler valve there is a guide rod. My question is, is the guide rod important or should i cut the guide rod then drill the blowgun hole? thanks!

spudstuff has a way of modding the guide rod by bending one end into an 'L' shape,placing the guide rod back in then bending the other end into an 'L' shape. There have been many recent topics on this question, please search prior to posting.
