i was thinking about how potato guns are becoming more and more like real and thought what if someone made a potato bullet. A preloaded shell that people could make a bunch of and fire off in rapid succession. what i can up with is this.

Image

the steel rod could be hit by a hammer of some kind creating a spark and ignite the fuel

you could design a gun around it and make a breach load system that fires then you open it and replace it with a new shell

i havent really thought about the dementions but if you have an idea or head of something like ths before please tell

im thinking you should put electrodes (aka sheets of aluminum foil) on the side of the shell so you wont have to worry about liking up the flint sparker. just have it so you but another set of electrodes on the inside of the cannons chamber, and hook them up to tazer, bbq sparker, or whatever. i think it would be easier to load then

i seen designs similar to this before, the problem is making these "shells" is costly and time consuming, of course its a very cool idea. the real problem comes when you attempt to achieve the right fuel/air mix.

if you do actually go through with it i suggest you use cam locks for the breach, i saw some in a northern tool magazine a few weeks ago

thats is a really good idea, but if i understand corectly the fuel is preloaded right? that would mean that it would have a chance to slowly leak out any small holes and it would all settle to the bottom and not ignite. thats what i think.

I know that that is just a drawing and not actual plans, but with that kind of chamber it would only go maybe 200 feet or so, it would almost have to be a hybrid to be powerful enough to be woth it.

as for ignition- maybe, like singularity said, have electrods already in it, like from a clothes hanger, and have it connect to a taser simple by touching it, if that makes scence. It would actually cost alot less than buying a flint for every shell, that way you just drill two holes and stick to rods in, epoxy them, and your done.

That's way more complex than it needs to be.

Just set up a load of spuds in short chunks of pipe, and set up an electronic set-up to auto fuel and vent your chamber at appropriate points during the loading.

Any "self-contained cartridge round" idea has several problems:
1) Complexity
2) Many countries/states then automatically qualify it as a firearm.
3) leaking
4) Rounds either too small to be useable, or too big to be practical.

I think that its a good idea and all but that would cost way to much if u have to buy a new "shot" after every time you fire it. it would be cheaper just to go with the old style if u had to keep buying you premade things.
