i was at a graduation party. we were camping in this state park and i had brought my new combustion tennis ball gun. we went to a place with no other people and i shot three times before a park ranger pulled up. i set the gun down and waited for him to walk over.
He said, "what is that."
I said, "A tennis ball launcher"
He said, "You can hear it all over the park"
I said, "Im sorry"
He said, "Thats a criminal citation"
I said, "It is?"
He said,"What is it powered by?"
I said, "Hair spray."
He said, " do you iginite it."
I said, "Yes"
and he said, "put it in the back of my truck

so i did and then he left with it. i really wasn't too upset. the gun only cost me 20 bucks and it wasn't worth arguing over a cop with. plus i like to build them more than i like to shoot them. I should have said it was powered by compressed air. when he asked me if i ignited it, it must have been because combustion guns are not allowed but maybe pneumatic ones are. idk, im just guessing. well what ever, i still have three others. you live and learn.

i think that the new rule should be that you have to put a schrader valve and a union on all cannons that way you can say its a burst disk pneumatic.

that would work but then he would ask you one of two questions 1) "wheres your air supply?" 2) "ok, let me see you fire it" so if its a combustion and you tell him its a pneumatic and he finds out its not that would be lying to a cop. and i think lying to a cop is a fellony. like spudthug said that is why where ever you go you should bring the paper stateing that spud guns are legal in the U.S. but... atleast you didnt have a .177 caliber bb gun with you. ive been caught two times with a .177 cal. one time with my dad and the other with my girl friend. .177 cal. are illegal in illinois but not in indiana suprisingly. thats why im happy i have a beach house in indiana.

If you go to the Wiki you can find that letter and print it out. I'm gonna paint the end of my barrel red, that way cops and such know it's a toy, mite get away with it??? I'm trying to be clever about it to avoid any possible future troubles.

Just paint a couplimg red and stick it on the end, then you can paint the gun how you like and not have to have the red thing uglying it up, and put the coupling on when you plan to shoot.

Maybe it was confiscated because you were firing it in a state park.

Cops just don't like you using anything on public property that goes boom, or looks vaguely like a weapon. I swear, it will draw them like a magnet. The attraction is bad enough when you are on your own property....

you should have said "look! a bear" and ran off.

very cheap, but may have worked.

Consider yourself lucky, here I would not only loose the gun I would get a nice hefty $4000NZD fine($3000US) and possbily up to three months in prison.

You could have waved whatever little law you wanted in his face, it wouldn't have changed anything. The violation here was not the use of a spudgun, he could have sited you for a noise violation in a state park... Unacceptable levels of noise in a park can disturb wildlife and other people... blah blah blah. You could also have been firing into an area where human/ wildlife may have been present (even if they weren't)
Don't try to argue with police, it will only result in confiscation, and you may be fined or arrested because they choose not to overlook violations that you are committing.

Well if he didn't right a report up and have you sign it or agree.I highly doubt the spudgun made it back to base. And if he was a park ranger they have a nasty habit of being a whole lot meaner than cops(to much time stuck in the woods),especially when there precious trees are in danger. What state are you in?I know the West coast is VERY anti-harming the environment.A Cali ranger made my dad put back a dead tree(cut up for firewood)in exactly the same spot it fell.He cited "destruction of woodlands" and disrupting "the nutrient cycle".
But you are lucky that he didn't fine you. Could have been a lot worse.
