This is my idea for a homemade bolt/valve, that resembles the M-1 Garand's style of firing. The bolt setup can be hooked up to any kind of cannon with a chamber and valve. The setup shown here is attached to a diaphram type valve, because it is compact, simple and powerful. (I mean the type of cannon, not my bolt). Basically it works because the bolt is setup on almost a track type thing where it slides along the barrel, exposing two holes, and then is pushed back to it's original position by a spring. it can also be adapted to any size. tell me what you think of my idea....
(BTW: In the diagrams, the yellow tube is the barrel)

i see what it does and how it works, but what does it do?

is it just for looks or is this how it loads?

i think its a good idea, but making it work would be hard.

It's basicly just a bolt that is setup for looks. Lol, I don't know why I made the design I'm just bored right now, but i think it would look cool on my cheap ebay gun stock because i could make it look like a M-1 Garand.

how are you going to seal the rail the actual bolt rides on, as soon as it fires wont air come blasting out the slot cut for the bolt to ride in?

i see one minor problem.

on the real m-1 the bolt moves back, not forward.

I just built it an lets just say it didnt work out. lol

Nah, I only built the bolt and the slot, I don't think i have the right tools to make a slot in the pipe for the bolt, it came out al crooked and crappy, but... I did learn how to make a howitzer style barrel from this expeirience... basicly the air pushes the barrel, and shoots through it at the same time... the rest is self explanitory...

is the valve connected to the oter pipe or the inner pipe?

from what i see, this will just make the spring move and not the barrel.

This is how it works... The black box in the diagram is tape wrapped thickly around the yellow thing, which is the barrel. There is a spring between where the tape and a dwv reducer, or a bushing, whichever you prefer. The barrel slides up and down inside the reducer/bushing. When the whole setup is attached to a valve with a chamber on the other end (obviously), the air pushes the barrel forward becuase of the tape seal, but some of the air (actually most) flows out of the barrel. When the barrel is pushed up far enough, and all the air is gone, the spring pushes it back to it's original position.

edit- again, this moves foward rather than backward. it would still be cool to make though.

I built a cannon around the design the spring is replaced by surgical tubing...
