Question about PVC pipe name terms

On
http://www.advancedspuds.com, the section on building the breech loading cannon (
http://www.advancedspuds.com/blseries.htm) uses terms in the parts list like FPT and MPT. What do those mean?

edit: What do (spigot x slip), (spig x FPT), and (slip x FPT) mean?

Thanks, that was a little confuzing for me before. That was alot of help as I am going to build a threaded-type breech loader using those plans.

edit: Oops, I forgot to ask what (spigot x slip) means. anyone know that one?
Spigot means that it is the same diameter as the pipe and requires a coupling to connect to a piece of pipe of the same diameter. However it will fit right in another fitting as if it were a piece of pipe.
Slip means that there aren't threads and that a piece of pipe matching up with the corresponding fitting diameter will "slip" right in, no threading.

i wish someone would have told me that before i ordered all my pipe and fittings, lol
