Following on the success of my pneumatic pengun project, here's my latest high pressure mini coaxial :D

Ok, so it's actually the round for my preloaded pneumatic cartridge project, but since it's a launcher in its own right, I thought it deserved a thread here.

I haven't taken it to full pressure yet, but here's a video at around 150 psi - ammunition is a permanent marker cap. Ok, not that impressive going through cardboard, but considering the "barrel" is less than 1 inch long, I was pretty impressed. And the little blighter is *loud*, sorry the video is without sound by sis has "borrowed" my good camera :-/

This is what the internals look like:

High pressure testing with the thing actually attached to the barrel to follow later, follow the cartridge thread.

For more detailed information on using epoxy, check out the how-tos here and here.

Any questions, feel free to ask :)

well im impressed, thought im slightly confused.

in your original design the piston sealed against the "bushing" and here is looks like it is just a small coaxial. which is it?

That looks really good, especially for just 1" barrel.
Do you cut the schrader valve to make it more compact?
really good quote/phrase here

I scrapped the original design and went for something slightly less efficient but more reliable, this design is effectively a 6mm coaxial - in fact, I though I'd try it with an airsoft BB :D At 100 psi it went through both sides of the cardboard box and through the card backing.

Technically I *could* use it as a cartridge for a 6mm high velocity airsoft rifle but the whole idea of having to align the barrel with the breech puts me off, before i get a lathe I'd rather have a cartridge made out of the same tubing I'll be using as a barrel.

Yeah, I cut it with a hacksaw at the point where the valve stem ends.

wow thats really nice i thought having it go through the 6mm tube would cut the performance alot more then it did :P

ps. i see your shooting a shoe box... would that be one of the many items purchased because your girlfreind made you go shopping?

That thing is awesome man. With a longer barrel and perhaps larger chamber that thing could slice bricks in half (not actually). You must be good with epoxy to make small parts like that. Good work.
Airbeds... so many different uses

A combination of patience, sweat, tears and profanity - epoxy is a matter of "If at first you don't succeed..." hehe

here you go :D

Jack is a very happy bunny :)

I hooked up the cartridge to a 2 foot length of 17mm barrel, loaded up a marble, set up a sheet of 1/4" ply et voila

This was at around 350 psi, looks like the power potential is there - not to devise a launcher to fire it. On the bright side, if it doesn't eject successfully, I could always build a double barrel sawn-off shotgun :D

double barrel would indeed be interesting.
And it would be too hard to make it work like one too.

Found this page looking for ideas to build my own double barreled sawn off. I am super happy and disappointed at the same time :) :( O well my build wont quite be original but in still going through with it.

I have stolen different aspects of other ppls designs for this thing :)

how do you feel 3in of 1/2" copper with a "1/4" brakeline barrrel as the cartridge.

130psi probably considering i will use propane to fill the carts 8) stole that little trick from the world of airsoft.

does this sound ok?

Well it is sort of relevant.

It sounds ok for airsoft skirmishing, something like this:

It has a mechanical pilot but performance should be around the same.
