Funny you should mention that, the day ended in me holding the pilot in one hand, and the gun in the other... LOLjackssmirkingrevenge wrote:
Nice!
Just one bit of advice, when firing something heavy don't grip the pilot too hard, the recoil might snap it off in your hand!

Re: 2" Pnuematic Cannon Build
Very nice looking! Quite solid too :D Assuming you have Sch40 or Sch80 PVC then I believe that your max pressure should be about 150 PSI (with the sprinkler valve), you can safely take it to about 100-120PSI. Here in South Africa we use Bar for pressure (1Bar ~ 15psi) My chamber uses Class 12 PVC w...

Re: 2" Pnuematic Cannon Build
I did the pressure tests tonight and I realized how scared I am of this thing! At first the gun didn't want to hold more than 45psi due the the leaky screw threads. This was enough pressure to test the modified valve and once I confirmed that it worked I mixed some epoxy and glued the screw threads ...

Re: 2" Pnuematic Cannon Build
Here's a closeup of the valve cover mod.
I sealed the little tube that the solenoid used to seal on using 2 part epoxy (but it wasn't worth a pic).

Re: 2" Pnuematic Cannon Build
Assembly complete. Pressure testing tomorrow night. Hopefully fire my first slug out of my first gun this weekend... Here's a closeup of the valve and some of the hardware. I forgot to unscrew the constrictive tip from the blower nozzle before taking the photo, but you get the idea. I just hope that...

Re: 2" Pnuematic Cannon Build
ok so I managed to get some pipe for the tank, but they were out of stock on 90mm pipe so I upgraded to a 110mm tank. I looked around for good quality tire valves, but couldn't find bolt in ones anywhere. I guess I'm just going to make a cheapy work... This is what I came up with, don't know if it's...

Re: Sprinkler Valve Modification (Not an Orbit)
I decided to swop the valve out for another model. This one has a guide pin (more like a tube) coming up from the bottom and much more meat in the middle of the top cover to tap my trigger valve / nozzle.

Re: 2" Pnuematic Cannon Build
The above config is more compact, but I just realized I'm creating some dead space around the elbows after the valve.
The following config will deal with that, but make the entire gun 8 inches longer...

Re: Sprinkler Valve Modification (Not an Orbit)
The principle is the same... Drill a hole in the cover and tap it to accept a threaded pilot valve/plumbing. You can just leave the solenoid attached or remove it and plug the hole with epoxy. Yup, and pull the guide pin and seal the hole in diaphram. Pulling the pin might be ok since the cylinder ...

Re: Sprinkler Valve Modification (Not an Orbit)
That was the plan, but this calve has a guide pin that is fixed to the top lid and not the bottom part of the valve body (See image, flow from left to right)
I'm afraid if I drill the top out that there might be too much movement on the seal and that it might render the valve useless

I'm busy building a similar setup. What sort of range are you getting with the 2" barrel?

Wow, impressive!
Have you fired it yet? What sort of range can it get with a golf ball?
