Yes, they do still make solder with lead and acid and rosin cores. Plumbing solder is labeled as 'lead free', so as to not poison your water supply. Acid and rosin core solders are used for other uses, such as electrical and metal working.

I am located north of Reno, so Vegas is too far away for now. We are finishing up the house, and lots of other projects before winter hits us. We drove down a couple of years ago in 5.5 hours though. ET highway is very fun at 124!

I would think a flap valve would be a much simpler alternative to the spring and check ball. It would be easier to get a good, tight seal also.
