Camlock coupling
A camlock coupler (also refered to as cam lever couplings or cam and groove couplings) is a type fitting that allows quick connect and disconnect of components.
They are sometimes used in place of unions. They are faster to open and close, but usually rated for less pressure than unions.
Camlock couplings usually exist as a threaded fitting.
It is used mostly on combustions cannons as a quick means to change between barrels, to hold burst disks, and for breech loading.
A popular camlock coupling is available from the Banjo corp. Homepage.
Let it be noted that the same popular brand name (Banjo corp.) Cam Lever Couplings are available from McMaster-Carr for less money than on the Banjo site, although McMaster does not specifically say that they are Banjo brand, I can assure you they are indeed, as I have personally ordered some, this is something to consider when purchasing these devices while on a budget. The McMaster site also has machined aluminum cam lever couplings which hold more pressure than the Polypropylene versions do, however they have a price tag to match. --Darth Tater 26 October 2005 00:55 (CDT)
