Been doodling some designs and seeking consultation as to what tools I would need to purchase exactly for my purposes and what is and isn't possbile with a lathe and mill. Here's one, not saying I'll build it but the list of potential projects is growing by the day...

selfcontainedminipistol, how do they work?

I don't completely get the piston.

Do you have looked for some reamers to use with your lathe? I drilled a hole yesterday on a lathe with a brand new 8 mm drill. It was pretty rough on the inside, too rough for pistons or O-rings.

The dark grey part through the front is a rod so air is free to flow around it.

I still don't have a lathe  what I do have is the money burning a hole in my pocket and the increasing knowledge that I need to be better informed before I part with my cash. My consultant assures me it will be fine in brass, though I have yet to see the full operation in action. Note that in this case the o-ring on the piston seals agains the breech, but there is no seal in contact with the chamber walls.

I know, but I think it will be a matter of time. :D

And, it's good to know what tools are around, so you can spend your money on the right one.
You can get adjustable reamers, so you can use one for multiple sizes.

Days, I hope!

Sounds sexy :D

In the meantime, I noticed that the port between pump and chamber needs a hole that will then be plugged with a brass rod epoxied in place ;)

Here's for you 5/16" hole, just to feel it (very quick & dirty job)
But it is very true a reamer would do a better job... you never have enough tools ;-)

Image Yeah, work it! Image

To be honest, even drill only looks good enough for piston purposes...

How did you polish?

Much better than your previous effort ;) and oh, that complex eh? I already polish like that in my drill-clamped-in-a-vice lathe!

Did you duct tape the camera to your chin :D

Then, maybe you don't need a lathe

This will remain unanswered.

No hammer and sear :(
No conical seat :(
No fold down grip for easier higher pressure pumping :(
No air inlet for the pump ;)
No spring to prevent air from leaking into the chamber instead of pilot volume :O

Actually that reminds me that some largish bore HPA pistol is something I've wanted to do for a while.

The pretty textures were meant to distract you!
No air inlet for the pump
Floating o-ring ;)
No spring to prevent air from leaking into the chamber instead of pilot volume

Pulling the trigger fully sufficiently blocks off the port ;)

Mmhmm and how does it get to the O-ring in the first place ? Loose fitting pump shaft ?
Pulling the trigger fully sufficiently blocks off the port ;)
And the pin moves back with pressure on first pump stroke ?
