Youtube itself doesnt have a button for this, you NEED to do this with "3rd party software".
No you don't. You need a player that can play .flv files though.

You can copy it out of your temporary internet files before you close the page. It will be named differently, but just arrange them by size and you'll see a large file with youtube in the name. Rename it "[filename].flv"

It requires more work but you can download them faster.

The nature of the .flv (flash video) compression that Youtube uses makes even wanting to download and convert it to a different format seem useless. Youtube has very low video quality.

but for a portable media device, low quality doesn't matter cause you're watching it on a 2.5" screen

I'm not sure what you mean benstern, i've always downloaded from youtube with decent quality. When I upload to youtube, then download my video, it's only slighty less worse in quality.

It's not like i'm expcecting Hi-Def or anything.

No, just his henchmen -- Bc Pneumatics, Sgort87, Pete Zaria, MrCrowley, my self. I don't think I left any mods out, but you never know! PCGUY could be lurking any where and every where!!! He does carry a evil banning stick, so watch it.
You know, I haven't seen BC, Sgort87, or Pete Zaria lately. Where have they gone?

Oh yeah, and if you have the latest RealPlayer it can download from youtube and many vid hosting sites as well.

I recently narrowed the problem down to a file being missing. The missing file causes the www to be dropped from the ip address, not even adding it in and resending/redirecting helps.

That is why I can't get the video's to download from Youtube. It is the only website I have problems with, and it has just recently happened. I have Realplayer but rarely use it, I guess it's time for a update on that.
