need a high flow pilot valve

Cannons powered by pneumatic pressure (compressed gas) using a valve or other release.

alright i recently made a 1 inch piston valve that is piloted with a 1/4 ball valve. it opens fast and has way more power than it needs for the task it was built for. this is the third version of the valve and i think i finally fixed all the problems (leaking pistons, bad exhaust port seals, shattered pistons, ect). the problem is this valve is built for a sniper, and a ball valve isn't a like a real trigger. now the real problem is the fact that a normal blowgun (the chrome kind with the red grip) just doesn't have the flow rate of a ball valve. it empties the pilot and chamber instead of just the pilot. so my question is... is there any sort of high flow spring loaded valve similar in dimensions to a blow gun (or smaller)?

You can modify the blowgun and get almost double the flow, or you can invest in a pressure washer handle (too expensive, in my opinion). You could try one of those pressure dish washing blowgun things restaurants use in the kitchens, I've been thinking about trying one for a while.

is double the flow rate of a blow gun close to the flow rate of a 1/4 ball valve? technically the blow guns my dads and im just gonna barrow it... i don't know if he'd want me to do that

Buy a new one, their cheap.
You could make your ball valve spring loaded and trigger it with a pin of some sort.
You could also accuate the piston with a smaller piston that is accuated by the blow gun.

Get a 1/4" QEV from McMaster ($11.90, part #6646K34). This version has a 1/4" inlet, 1/4" outlet, and 3/8" exhaust. Next, hook up a regular blowgun to it. Now you have the best of both worlds.

Got any designs for spring loaded ball valves?

P.S. Wouldn't a sprinkler valve work as a decent pilot?

<a href="http://www.sentex.net/~mwandel/cannon/a ... ">heres</a> a site i found a spring loaded valve on

and a sprinkler valve wouldn't work because the tee i built the valve in is only 1inch, besides that would mean the pilot valve would actually be larger that the real valve. the idea was to keep this small and compact, a sprinkler valve isn't exactly what i would consider compact

Try and find a micro solenoid valve. I used a tiny 3/4in sprinkler valve on two of my guns and they are fast as and tiny.

3/4 sprinkler valves are still to big for my requirements. i might try a micro solenoid valve but i would have to order them covertly, my dad doesn't trust eBay

Have you ever even used a spray gun to paint?
That would not work well as a pilot

If you want a high flow pilot then use a 1/4" QEV piloted by a pistol grip blowgun. or the blowgun by its self
