I am at technical school studying machining 8) and i need some project to do at there, i can use lathes, milling machines, welders, and all basic machines and if i need then cnc machines too but not much .... so I NEED IDEAS FOR MAKING SOMETHING :) using machining tools.

maximum TIME i can spend is 30h

i know this is hard question but i just need to get something to do

i cant make spudguns  (i`m not allowed to)

here is some of my own ideas that i have thinked to make:pulsejet engine, vacuum forming machine for plastic, piston valve for high pressure  piston valve is best idea for now . but i would like to get MORE ideas.........so give me anything :D

.............................................................

EDIT:

I think i`m going to make piston valve with 2" out let ,valve body would be made out of steel pipe ,piston would be aluminium or nylon or something that i can get from finland

my teacher dont even know what piston valve is, so i think he would be very impressed if i make one

also piston valve would be good because i have made many of them so i know I could make it work very well :D

Machine yourself a super high tech sabot for a flachette. Or go with the vaccum forming machine. That'd be pretty cool too.

Or build both.

Vaccuum forming thing sounds cool. Piston also sounds pretty cool. Can you really make a pulse jet engine in 30hours? Are you gonna be allowed to keep your project?

Alternative fuel engines(steam, veggy oil, heat motors,etc.).They show well and utilize many basic machining principles.

I would go with the engine or the valve, because the vacuum former can be made from plastic jars in under half an hour.

I vote: vacuum forming machine for plastic or the Piston valve
Another idea: Ive heard people making hovercrafts, maybe you could look into them, because they sound fun
Or, if you have the resources, a gokart (motorised)
Good luck with whatever you decide on!
really good quote/phrase here

Something involving electricity could be fun. You could try making a wimshurst generator(pic), as they take a bit of machining skill, but can be built fairly quickly.

A pulse jet might be plausible. I'm guessing most of the time spent would be de-bugging. A compressed air motor might be a cool concept to demonstrate also.

Of course, you could just make a massive piston valve(6 inches?) and blow things apart using only air as a projectile.

I recommend making a few piston valves inside T's or something.
You might not be allowed to create spudguns, but hey once your allowed to make a GREAT valve, you got the most important part of your spud. (wich they dont know)

Just tell em you will be making a valve and make the valve then. And then later on, you may build your valve into the new spudcannon at home.

I had a machining class in High School and I made a pretty cool hammer on a lathe, not all that advanced but still proud of it. Try building an air compressor or hydraulic pump.

I build high pressure pump for my spudguns last year so i dont want to do same kind of thing :)

That sounds like a great project! A piston valve is a unique choice, and it's impressive that you already have experience with it. If you want more ideas, consider making a simple CNC router, a small tool holder or organizer, a custom bracket for a specific application, or even a mechanical toy. These projects can help you apply your skills and learn something new! Good luck!

Isn’t 30 hours a bit rushed?

How about machining a small Stirling engine? It's a perfect 30-hour project that combines lathe and milling work, teaches precision fitting, and you get a cool working model at the end!
Combining power and compactness, the Nema 23 stepper motor and planetary gearbox are the ideal power solution for CNC machines.
