I was wondering what an expansion chamber was, I've read about guns that use them a bunch, and I'm still clueless as to what they are exactly. Could someone help me out here?

YES, I did search, so don't bug me about that.

An expansion chamber is exactly that, a chamber used to expand gases before they are used. They are mainly used on pneumatics that work off of CO2 (to allow the liquid CO2 to expand to a gas), however, combustion guns also have an expansion chamber (the main chamber would technically be classified as an expansion chamber, as it allows the gas to expand for usage).

An expansion chamber could be used on a combustion. But, for propane or butane fuel. The chamber allows the gas to expand and warm up so it gets to the temperture it will be used at and can then be metered more accurately. This has to do with this gas/pressure law that states that as a gas warms up, it expands and as a gas gets cooler it will contract and be at a lower volume. This holds true for gases like CO2, propane, butane, freon, etc. Nitrogen is not affected, or at least as much which is why it is used in shock absorbers and sometimes in tires so as the temperture changes the pressure will remain more constant.
I'm weird, I know it, you don't need to tell me.
