(No, its not another propellant debate)

The other day I noticed a fairly large hornet nest built onto the side of my roof. Obviously I wasn't going to leave it there, nor was I going to get a 15-foot ladder and go toe-to-toe with only a can of RAID as a defense.

So, I found a creative solution that used already existing technology:
Potato acceleration.

I got my trusty $0 combustion out of the corner, and began cleaning procedure. (actually, my first thought was "Hybrid time!", but a second later, I decided it was a bit of overkill being I was basically aiming at my house)

I fired 2 shots; the first one was slightly too low and split itself on the bottom of the eaves, and the remaining half dented the siding a bit.
The second shot cleaned off the nest almost completely(there was a bit remaining after the first).

Both shots were done from about 20ft away, but I had to aim carefully to avoid hitting the brittle slate roofing above. The board in the picture is around 4 inches wide.

(I'm guessing this is an exception to the forum rules against shooting animals, being they are basically pests)

Here's the obligatory pictures:

You could've made a flamethrower, though, for a bit more fun.
Please note that if you destroy your house I didn't tell you to.

You also could've shot a can of bugspray at it, they tend to spray out quite a bit more once they're smashed on something.

A few years back my friend and I had loads of fun dropping rocks down a pipe into a hornets' nest and running when they all came out.

You might what to go up there and check if they made a rest into the house and hit the whole area with raid to kill the larva and things.

I did that a long time ago, cept I used paintballs.

They got pretty pissed, so we started swinging a 5 foot section of 3" pipe at them/the nest. Then we just turned the gardenhose on and used the special nozzle on it's "stream" setting. It knocked the thing down and washed all the paint off.

There was plenty of running involved, as wasps get angry at things like that.. :?

Awsome!!! We have a KILLAR GREEN HORNET problem, so this would be a great excuse to build a new spudgun.

These hornets are evile! They built a nest in a bush along our front-door path, and they follow anything that walks of flies by!! Even birds! It takes a direct hit with raid to kill em.

These things are huge. About the size of my thumb. No, my thumb is not very small. :P

I find that filling the barrel with water is just as effective for this purpose, and it doesn't damage the house either :)

That all depends on how big the cannon is.

I can just see me with a 8" diameter 10 foot long barreled gun with 4 supahs hooked up to dual 12" 10 foot chambers. All mounted onto a truck, back it up to the nest.

Be a real man and use your hand.Just be warned your hand will most likely double its size and turn puffy red :D

Pains me to think about it again. But that's what I get for grabbing a wasp nest on the backside of the board I was moving
