Hey guys,
I need a 1/4in compression fitting that fitted 1/4in brass/copper pipe, ok.... 1/4in is 8mm..
Therefore does 1/4in pipe have an I.D of 6mm? or do I have everything really mixed up?

Nominal pipe sizes may or may not be close to an actual dimension of the pipe.
In L type copper tubing, 1/4" tubing is .375" OD (3/8"), and .315" ID. So the ID really is 8mm (actually 8.001mm). That assumes you have 0.035" walls. IIRC, the 1/4" pipe you get at the hardware store is the ".375" OD, .315" ID" stuff.
Mcmaster.com is a good place to look up things like pipe IDs, ODs, pressure ratings...
