Take a look at the Penetrating 1/4" Plate Steel thread. Maybe you could test the penetration capabilities of ammo made out of various materials and in different shapes. Don't use anything as strong as 1/4" steel unless you have a really big launcher to shoot it with.
Testing combustion gun C:Bs is always a good project, but may require more time and work than this project allows.
Pneumatic C:Bs are already known, and don't really require testing. Now a comparison between the C:B of a pneumatic, and the noise it produces could be interesting, you'd just need some way to measure the sound level.

Thanks everybody! I actually think I will start on that hybrid and test C:B's and fuel ratios though, but hey, I got till monday to think about it.
Piston valves I'd rather avoid since I'd rather use store bought parts to eliminate possible experimental errors, but if I might think about the sound thingy DYI suggested.

on the sound made by different barrel lengths, there are many computed programs that will show you the sound waves of an audio clip. If you hook up a mic to Lappy, then you can record the sound waves. I may end up doing that for my science project...

Okay, I need to have this thing done by tomorrow, but I have until January 11th to conduct the experiment. Since I have that much time, and I do want to do something interesting, I think I'm going to go ahead with that hybrid. I got a D on noname's hybrid user quiz
but I have a long time to read up on them, so I think I'll be okay.
I'll probably use a microphone hooked up to a computer to calculate mps, and experiment with different barrel lengths with slightly different fuel mixtures. Any objections or concerns?

That quiz was inaccurate, vague, and at some parts downright wrong (don't eat me Noname). Just do your research and take your time and you should be fine (and don't use plastic pipe of any kind).
