Given the sudden rise of "how much damage can you do to a -------", "how fast can you fire a -------" etc. "challenges" in recent days, why not have a separate section on the forum with a specific format where there person setting challenge lays out what should be achieved and what parameters should be respected etc.
I think that adding this competitive edge would actively encourage project development amongst the members of the forum - and at no extra cost to the administrator as no prizes are involved - but to have these threads crop up at random makes them hard to follow and causes a lot of clutter, so perhaps keeping them in their own section would be a better idea.

America, the greatest gangster of all time. With 200 million odd foot soldiers at it's whim and call.
When you fill your car with refined oil remember that it has been paid for with blood and guts, some from your own countrymen, most not.
This has become so very obvious to me now.
What SpudFiles needs is a "complaints box", to be special to every area or thread ( set by moderators of course ).
This could have been easily avoided if such protocol was in place.
I have no problems with anyone that runs this site- I rather appricieate them

A challenges section may be a good idea, however as stated by MrCrowley SpudFiles already has a ton of sections. Trying to keep the number of sections to a minimum is very important in trying to keep things organized.
I am not sure if I want to just make a totally new section just for challenges due to this reason. Unless anyone else has any other ideas...
Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).
Let Jack control/patrol the "Challenges Section". He's a respected member, and knows his way around Spudfiles and cannons in general, never seen him be unpleasant to any other members???
It's not the moderation that is the issue, it's just the sheer number of forums I have on SpudFiles. So many places to put stuff, after a while it starts to look overwhelming and can confuse members.
One of the important keys to website design (especially on a forum like this). When you design, you must assume that your viewer knows very little, you want to make things easy and as mininal as possible. Granted SpudFiles isn't the very best at this, it's somewhat decent and I try to keep it that way.
Only idea I have so far... remove the Theories/Accessories Database forum. Why? Because discussing new cannon ideas as a theory is exactly what happens in the Discussion sections as well. All of the threads from that section would be moved to General Spudgun Related.
Everyone also must remember, when considering a new forum you have to think, how many people will really use it? Do you guys think these challenges will continue to grow or they will die out fast? Personally I like the idea, regardless of the fact some of them may be "stupid". Gives members something to do, keeps them active, etc. Also keeps me entertained watching people trying to shoot through milk jugs...

That sounds like a good plan. Even if it does slow down new members will come along and add new challanges and old members will try to out do them green horns/newbee's. Teach them things and learn new idea's.
I say go for it. If it doesn't work, just remove it.
As an example, the IPLA and classifieds don't get much activity, but they are still good to have. The same would go for the challenges section.
