This is my first cannon using a piston valve. It's a barrel sealing valve with o-rings and an equilization hole. I used a lathe to turn the pvc-piston down to fit inside a 2" pipe, you can see in the picture that this way the piston has more travel. That pvc you see sticking out of the back mainly serves to protect the fittings, and to hold the actuating trigger.
-3" Chamber
-1.25" barrel
-2" tee barrel sealing piston valve
-Optional schrader valve for filling with a bike pump

What does everyone think of the design? It's not the best looking design but whatever, i built it for power..

Man thats one great looking gun! And good job on your first piston valve too. What kind of stuff do you shoot with it?

Very nice. How does it perform? Is the piston removable, in case of defects?

It's very loud and powerful, i've only shot potatoes so far but working on some PVC slugs. Piston is serviceable and it's sealed with some silicone sealant which works very well.

that is a very cool looking cannon you have. i like it. that stock looking thing, is that for you hip or you shoulder? it looks like its for your hit.

what did you use as a bumper?

Thanks. The "stock" is to protect the fittings for the valve on the back in case I want to load potatoes, that end needs to be on the ground. I used hot glue and a spring as a bumper.

Good job, though it seems you went overboard on the pilot volume - how long is your piston and far does it move back?

Very nice cannon, I love it. Very clean and professional looking, great idea with that fittings protector at the back.

Not all cannons have a pilot volume smaller then a syringe :P

Wow, jsr, well great gun, how to you pilot it? You should invest in a better valve than a blow gun to pilot it. Opening times will decrease.

I pilot it from that blowgun, and it works fine for now. Firing times are pretty fast, enough for me, so i'm not going to change it. My next piston valve will be like 3" so ill use something else for that.

How BIG of a piston valve could I make? I was thinking a 3" chamber sealing valve because i have access to a lathe.

Make it as big as you want, it is a very scalable concept. The lathe can machine o-ring grooves. and o-rings increase efficiency and decrease opening times.
