OK, I have determined that I need TUNGSTEN. A 1/2" rod 6" long would weigh a bit over 6.5 ounces. A 1" sphere would weigh about 5.75 onuces. This stuff is 1.5 times as dense as lead!

Rig a good sabot and I bet I could do some real damage with either form.

Anyone know where I could get tungsten bolts, rods or spheres? My initial search of the internet makes it look like a tough thing to find in small quantities.

You could use Osmium. A brick sized piece weighs a whopping 56 pounds(about)  but it could be quite hard to get

Paintball or airsoft accesories or buy a laser diode or laser pointer and make it yourself. There's nothing to it.
