4" Piston ideas

The only other thing I can find that might work are some old paint cans that almost fit and could be wrapped in tape with a good sealing face on the ends.

Folks on here have used similar methods and it worked for them. You might want to epoxy some sort of reinforcement at the bottom of the can (like say an appropriately sized wooden disk) to prevent it from deforming.

Hot glue may be good for this? Better than epoxy maybe, because of pricing and weight?

A standard 1lb green propane tank is very close to 4" diameter. You could wrap it in duct tape or epoxy some oring to it for a good fit.
You could cut it down to size and fill it with foam if it's too big.

Be sure to use a good bumper.

I've never built a 4" piston cannon nor have I ever used a propane tank as the piston but would not the tank be a little too heavy to do this efficiently?

It all says its pressure rated, I think.

Yup looks good to me... it says its rated to 220 psi, I didn't mean to double post, I don't even know how that happened I only hit the button once... w/e to late now lol

Quick question about piston valves, can they be piloted from only a blowgun? Just connecting a pressure rated pipe to the pilot port, and to a blowgun. Would it still open quickly?

It probably won't a 4" but it is possible on smaller ones.

I doubt you could pilot a 2" piston well with a blowgun, but a blowgun will easily pilot a 2.5" diaphragm valve.

I can pilot a 1" piston very well with a schrader, it's all a matter of having a tight fitting piston and a minimum pilot volume.

I tried using a blowgun to pilot my 2 inch piston and it didn't work, so if your piston isn't going to be absolutely perfect, like with o-rings then maybe you should use a ballvalve they let heaps of air out.
