I picked up a flash unit at a local thrift shop. As soon as I figure out a few things I'll let you know. So far I haven't been able to get a spark without the tube. I did scare the crap out of my wife when I discharged the cap with a screwdriver. Here are a few links I found here on Spudfiles....very interesting...

for some reason, with no tube, when contact is made where you trigger flash, i get a spark from ground to trigger wire. This is supposed to happen, but its dumping the whole main cap int scondary transformer. This gets a hot spark.


Try to make it dump whole cap into secondary transformer.

What do you mean by the secondary transformer? And does anyone have an easy schematic to help cuz im SO lost its not even funny :S

That was very nice but I thought it went a little fast. I bought a cheap throw away for the very same purpose but the insides didn't look like that. Is there a schematic for those of us who want to do this?

I do like the video approach, though. I wish I had something like it when I first built mine. maybe it would of saved me a few dollars.
