I would suggest this kind of thing if only the pipe's walls were thicker. If the walls were twice as thick, that would be perfect if you could get proper welding done on the base - but a 40,000 ft-lb bowling ball is cool anyway.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Thats sick! oh, and BTW, i did mess up by saying codone and i meant it a negative connotation as stated above. But, all in all, I think that I will just put it under the house and when I get some money and a car in 2 years or so, then I'll work on it and prolly make a hybrid and then i'll get a new compressor that will make pressures above 130 PSI. LOL But thanks for all of your help guys! I was just putting it up for ideas and i was wondering what you guys recommended I do. THANKS!!!!!

Well, for one thing, the steel pipe is 10", not 5".

Personally, if I got something like this for free, I'd go the whole nine yards, and make it a hybrid. Get it cut into a 1' section, and a 4' section, and then have a large flange welded in the middle. At 3x, with a 10 pound projectile, EVBEC quotes a muzzle velocity of 86m/s, for a grand total of 16 000 joules of absolute f*cking mayhem.

I would be willing to bet that the entire process of getting that hybrid working could be done for under $500, with a bit of creativity.

And Hotwired, I get the stuff so cheap because he knows what I'm doing with it, and likes it. In the UK, what you're doing is completely illegal, so you don't have that benefit.

Thanks guys! I wasn't even thinking of building it into a hybrid! Iwas more along the lines of old school cannon? but I think a hybrid would be much more efficient and well, just overall better. Now, What in the hell to use for ammo????????? :?:

Well, for ammo you could use bowling balls saboted with a towel. I don't know if basketballs fit 10" pipe, but if they do, you could fire concrete filled basketballs out of it. Also, you could create an ice slug, which you could then cast plaster around. After that, you'd have a premade mold for ice, Pykrete, or other slugs. A 10"OD x 24" long ice slug would weigh 63 pounds  Out of the design I modeled (10" x 12" chamber, 10" x 48" barrel), with a 5x mix, that slug would leave the barrel at about 48 m/s, with 33,000 joules of kinetic energy.

Remember D_Hall's "Pipe Dream"?

Like I said, these type cannons can be great fun! Granted, I never had or built one this size, but when your ten, two prinkles cans taped together is like a battle ship!

Save some work, go for an oxy-fuel cannon if you have access to oxygen. Just find a way to weld a buffer in the middle of the pipe cut out of .25 or .5 inch plate. If you have access to acetylene, even better!

Pneumatics or hybrids are fun, but why not start it up simple first?
Just build a big combustion (wich is already VERY VERY powerful) and you can always take it up to hybrid or pneumatic later.
Till the day I'm dieing, I'll keep them spuddies flying, 'cause I can!

Thanks for your informative and well-thought out post ispudder! Care to enlighten the forums with some more clever, safe and smart ideas?

As for the pipe, the answer is obvious. Make the third basketball cannon ever. Does it have a welded seam down the inside of the pipe or is it seamless? If it's seamless, look up DR's basketball cannons. This piece of pipe is begging for it.
