Here it is when the incoming air pressure is at or below the predetermined setting.
And here it is when the pressure is too high and the regulator stops feeding air.
A set pressure is determined by how strong the spring is and how much surface area the piston has. I guess it can be adjusted by changing how far back the piston has to travel before it cuts off air.
