I just saw this and realized what an idiot this guy is. 5mm round red LEDs are able to handle about 12v ar 50ma. a spark from a peixo as in the high ten thousands at probably 20 ma. This would blow the led instantly. I know this because my dad is a leading scientist in the development of LEDs.

A better idea would be a 1 mm spark in series with the circut inside a small glass tube.
