It's still a load of theory at the moment though, for something more practical check out my combustion cartridge prototype. Most of the image links are dead though, I reposted them here.

I used a propane-butane mix metered with a syringe via one of these burner things:

I did some measuring and came up with the head for the cartridge I need made and sent it off to a friend to see if it's feasible - this project might yet be made

The area of 10mm x 6mm is for the projectile correct?
Would you not be better off by having small ridge on the back side to prevent projectile from sliding back?

I was thinking a bit of wire epoxied in place would do the job, I tried to keep the design to be machined as simple as I could in order to keep the cost down - I don't mind it for a one-off but money will be a factor if i'll want them in bulk.

I don't plan on having more than 20 rounds at the very most, I'd be happy with a 10 round magazine.

I already modified the design to eliminate the metal casing, I figured it would be cheaper to just epoxy the threaded section into an existing piece of pipe.

How would you screw the front threaded section in to hold the burst disk?
it isn't protruding out of the end of the pipe that might be a problem right?
EDIT: and it would also be easyer to epoxy the wire on the threaded section my idea.

I was thinking of either drilling two holes in the face or cutting a groove across it, then make a simple tool that acts like a screwdriver.

Ok and the threaded section diagram looks good except one thing the part that is below the male threaded would be pressing against the top of the shell when it screws in and maybe not alow the top of the male thread to pinch the burst disk. Maybe if there wasn't any space between the top of the male thread and the bottom of the female thread and the shell wouldn't suffer estheticly because the threaded section would be in the air chamber.
