My first large cannon

Cannons powered by pneumatic pressure (compressed gas) using a valve or other release.

Is it cool?

Hello, this is my first large cannon. It has a 4' 3 inch chamber that is reduced to 1.5 inch that connects to a 1.25 inch ball valve then to
1.5 inch pipe that is reduced to a 1.25 inch barrel that is 3' long that has a 3' exstention that you can add on. Now I know you are probably hollering at your monitor that I used sch 40 abs but the reason that I built the cannon was to fire D-cell batteries far not through things so that the operating pressure is olny 60 psi and I never go over that pressure. The estimated distance it fired was 800' and when I fired it at a yeild sign it left a big dent

Nice, that's a pretty big cannon! I guess it's kind of a good thing that you used ABS instead of unrated pvc, since it doesn't shatter when it fails, but I would still be careful if I were you, since I value my life.

You have a lot of wasted air in that chamber, 800' i don't think so.
Cut you chamber in half, or use a barrel about 5 times the length.

You might want to look into PAXCON

http://www.paxcon.com/

I think it was foolish to build a pneumatic out of ABS. Nice to know your only going for distance and VANDALIZING yield signs.

800 feet at 60 psi, still not seeing it.
But if you are happy that's all that counts. :?

Novacastrian you abviously didn't read the part that said ''to a 1.25 inch 3' barrel that has a 3' exstention you can add on''.

And Dahmer would still be alive if he had told the police he "only cut up mannequins".
Keep backpedalling and maybe you be able to build this with pressure rated parts and a better valve. :o

Ok if you didn't se what I wrote I wrote that I olny use it at 60 psi and it probably would exsplode at 120 psi no need to get your nickers in a knot!

You are right on that count, i tend to look at the pics more than the specs.
That said you still will be hard pressed to gain distances of 800', even with a barrel 24 feet long, that is unless you are firing sub-calibre ammo.
