Hello I am made a cannon that I converted to a piston valve rifle and I need to unscrew a steel 1.25 inch endcap that I sealed leaks on I used gorrila glue as the sealent. Also will I be able to spray paint it black? The solder job isn't too good.

Heat is your friend, get a blowtorch and get that puppy real hot, it will render the glue useless and you will be able to unscrew it easy like.

a pipe wrench and gorilla arms might get you endcap off.

why would you use gorilla glue as a sealant? it is a permanent adhesive and not for use in pressurized systems.

So using pipe wrenches didn't work?

If you can't get enough leverage with pipe wrenches (unlikely, as an 18" wrench with a few feet of pipe attached has enough leverage to tighten 2" steel fittings until they break), heat will be the way to go. Were they just glued and hand tightened, or did you use a pipe wrench to tighten them after you glued them?

Well I tightened them with vise grips, so to take the endcap off with heat do I need to heat it up and while it's hot I un screw it or do I cool it down first?

It doesn't make a difference, once the glue is de-natured, it's de-natured.

This just keeps getting better and better... Why didn't you use a pipe wrench, and why didn't you just use pipe dope or teflon tape?

yeah teflon tape and a pipe wrench is enough... you don't need glue

the neat thing about gorilla glue is that it expands, filling almost every nook and crany. the thinnest layer possible can expand to over a 1/4" if the moisture content is wrong or zero moisture. this is why carpenters like it. it fills in the cracks and is stainable. you should have read the directions.

your typical propane blowtorch is not going to heat the steel up enough to disturb the bonds.

scrap it and build another chamber :P

Well guess what I just got the endcap off and replaced it I guess I didn't need to build a new chamber :P
And the reason I used gorrila glue is because it exspands so it would seal and there were a few leaks even with a ton of teflon.

How much did you tighten it with the teflon? For that size of fittings you should have used about 6' of tape per joint, braced it against the floor with a pipe wrench, and tightened it with an 18" pipe wrench until you couldn't turn it anymore. If you did that, the fittings shouldn't have leaked unless they were defective.

pretty tight. 6' of tape that seems like a little much wellI think I got them right now so do you think I could spray paint it black?
