This is my copper rifle. I'm not going to go into detail on this post but if you have any questions you can post them here.

What did you make your piston and sealing face from?

The body of the piston is made from 3/4 inch poplar dowel and the sealing face is 2 layers of neoprene supper glued on there is exactly 1 layer of duct tape around the body of the piston and circle of foam on the back of the piston that is supper glued to the back of the piston with 7 layers of duct tape to protect the foam from rippage.

how far does your piston travel?
what is your pilot volume?
what type of valve are you using to pilot it?
and how does it work with the schrader valve?
why didn't you use epoxy for your piston?
what psi are you using?
and how far does it shoot?
what is your ammo?

how far does your piston travel? : About 1 inch.
what is your pilot volume? :Unknown but small.
what type of valve are you using to pilot it?:1/2 inch mini ball-valve.
and how does it work with the schrader valve? :The shrader doesn't have the needle thing in it that makes it a check valve.
why didn't you use epoxy for your piston? :Wood was availible cheap and it was light while epoxy is a little pricey and heavier.
what psi are you using? :As high as my pump will go {160 psi max}.
and how far does it shoot? : Haven't done range shooting but I have big hopes for it to go about 500 feet.
what is your ammo?: Darts.

1" of piston travel seems quite large. if you went for the d/4 'rule' it should only have 3/16" travel, that extra 13/16" is extra pilot volume you have to vent. probably doesn't matter with the ball valve, but if you were to try a blowgun it might not work. nice effort any ways.
Nice gun. how accurate is it?
What size is your barrel?
What length is the barrel?
Also what are your darts made of?
I have made a copper shooter with a 10.5mm inside diameter barrel. It is a big pain to try and find any kind of ammo for it. I did find some 10mm glass beads but it is about as accurate as throwing the damn beads myself
Too much play in the barrel and it throws them out in all directions.
I am looking at making some darts at the moment but I am looking for different ideas.

3/16" seems like the barrel wouldn't be open too much and why would people fuss about putting padding on the back of the piston doesn't seem like it would be able to accelerate too fast.bluerussetboy wrote:1" of piston travel seems quite large. if you went for the d/4 'rule' it should only have 3/16" travel, that extra 13/16" is extra pilot volume you have to vent. probably doesn't matter with the ball valve, but if you were to try a blowgun it might not work. nice effort any ways.
