People use Photobucket for ease of use, and for easier manipulation. Attachments are always at the end of a post, and sometimes that isn't what people want. Photobucket pictures are cleaner looking, auto-resizing, and should remain as long as your account is active.

Been thanked: 1 time

hmmm it seems that you are going to spend some $ for every round :D
it would be a better idea to build a bigbore piston mortar from steel... you could use CO2 to power it and it would be much more powerful + you wouldn't be limmited to one type of ammo...

besides I suppose that the co2 canister would leave the barrel with some co2 in it.... one one hand it might be good because it would work as a rocket engine to some extent.. but one the other hand this can cause great inaccuracy. If you can't predict where your projectile is going to fall it can cause accidents

Well I just realized that I have no computor program that can make animations. I do have microsoft paint if that is good enough for you.
And ouchprogramme Im not sure if it has been mentioned before or not but i dont really care it is a good Idea that is acheivable.

Uhh....my comment wasn't in a negative manner.

It can be achieveable. You could use a hammer system to strike the object which will pierce the CO2 canister. But would the small opening in the canister be enough?

EDIT: Also, how are you going to stableize the canister w/o losing the pneumatic power?

I didnt mean to imply that it was in a negitive manner but as I reread it it sounds like I thought it was.
The small opening should be enough because of the so low volume.
Stabalize the canister what?

Sarge: When you do this, whether it is a success or failure, will you post the results? I, too, have thought about it, but never done it and I'm wondering what kind of performance, if any, these little devils can do on there own.

Well, the canister doesn't have any fins on it, so it'll be flying everywhere. Maybe some simple strings attached onto the end of the projectile will stabillize it.

Or....a rifled mortar barrel :D

In my thoughts, I was thinking of affixing one of these in the end of a Nerf Mini Vortex to propel that with it, making a true rocket propelled grenade.

I just wasn't sure on what kind of ranges I would get so I abandoned the idea before I put forth the effort to find out.

Cool idea, I imagine that when you were thinkin' it up, you thought the part where you drop it down the barrel to fire it was part of the coolness, seeing as how that is what real mortors are like. Although I agree with previous posters, that it wouldn't be enough to puncure it. Although, if you still wanted it to work that way, you could use the spring accuated nail for the piercing, but have the trigger be set off by the accual canister as it is almost too the nail. here is a simple drawing....

obviously the levers and such would have to be housed in something and it would be more complex than this but do you get the idea?

Good luck, lock

Sorry for not replying for a couple hours. Yes, Hubb107, I will post the results, in fact I just finished the firing mechanism and painted it. I don't have the barrel yet but I will post pics and a video probably within the hour.
:EDIT: Just so you know, this was much harder than you think to make the spring mechanism.

With just the weight of the canister, it's not going to be able to puncture a hole. If added with a swinging mechanism, centripetal force would be have enough force to break through the canister.

Thank you very much. I have the picture up now, the picture is not very good because you cannot see the bolt on it, and it's the first coat of paint. :EDIT: Just completed 2nd coat of paint, will have up better picteures tomorow.

A couple friends and I have tried this out, after spending forever to get the nail lined up with the Co2, it wasn't even that good, It wouldn't puncture straight and the round would always shoot off wonky, and because of the small hole it had some serious propulsion after it exits, so that round will go crazy.

We made Co2 powered cars back a while as well, those things never went straight either even with a guide wider. Suggestion, don't even bother putting the Co2 in the round, come up with something else.

Well, I can't say that was the largest lot of encouragement I've ever read... :?
