KY Jelly boiling and sticking check valve

Hi,

Has anybody else experienced heat resistance problems with KY Jelly or the like (silicone oil) as a lubricant?

I used it in my new homemade pump. Today was the SECOND time it boiled, and turned into a white sticky material (like 3/4 hardened epoxy) that caused my check valve to stick open. That always happens when I have got around 4 bar in the chamber ...

I guess I have to find something else for that pump. Never going to use KY (for the pump ) again.

Eh, use good old engine/bike oil, KY jelly is not a mechanical lubricant. Well machine lubricant at any rate.

Use real mechanical lubricant if you can, but do note that some types may eat your o-rings

Lithium based Grease, that's your stuff.

White lithium greese resist water. Commonly used in boat trailer wheel bearings. This brings up a interesting question. Do pneumatic cannons built condensation drops inside the chamber/s?

You can use normal car fat/grease too.

I understand why water based lubricants would "boil" (but @ only 4Bar?), but I'm very surprised that silicone oil didn't work.

DC200 50CS has a service temp of -40C to 200 C

Anyhow, I have been using whatever oil (petroleum based) was at hand without problems. Ranging from 10wt to 20w50.
