hey i want to get more spudding people on this forum that has made a gun. now it is about 100 members that is "experienced" and post when they think they can help.
if you look at the memberlist you can count "or not" the 0post members.
so my question to the forum and mostly admin and mods is if i could save some cannon pics and throw them in a video along with some text and try to get more members through youtube?

Mmmmh...A lot of people don't understand our hobby. People who actually get to understand what is spudding, and the state of mind in which we do it generally post one or two posts here, and go away. Plus, on youtube misunderstanding is frequent.
On the other hand, to me some people are building spudguns and perhaps want to find a good website that has some sort of "database", making such a video could help them find us. Could be a good idea
. I think another point to be considered if we do this video, is the our geographical repartition : people coming from all around the world can be a little frustrated when they see an english site as they perhaps don't speak english. That would require permanent translaters. If this "project" succeeds, i can be the french translater...

I just searched on youtube for that video, and found it.
Well the video is a good start, nut i think it needs actual clips of the cannons firing, and more cannon examples. But that is just what I think.
And if we are going to get any new members from this its going to have to get a lot of veiws, right now it had about 2

it needs to have the most impressive launchers and their respective damage vids/pics, aswell as some nice music and flashy writing.

I'd definitely say it needs some video of cannons firing. To be honest, I think it'd be better to make the video appeal to the more intelligent portion of Youtube viewers. That's just my opinion. We really don't need any more people from the "OMGzorz i wnna blow stuf up n stuf liek u giz!!11!!!eleven!!" crowd.

if someone has some decent cannon vids i can get them in a new vid.
the vid i made is to get more spudgunners to know of the site.
and it is pretty hard to get anyone to look at a vid called "spudfiles" any suggestions?

Tags. Every variant of potato gun you can think of. Also, give it tags like engineering, this will let people know that the point of this hobby isn't just to blow stuff up, it's also to learn and push the boundaries. Just tag it with anything you think is remotely relevant.

I just got a copy of Sony Vegas from my friend (who acquired the software through completely legal consumer means). I could work on one of these videos you guys speak of...

If you are trying to get more people to come to this site, the easiest way would be to make a long video that includes a lot of damage pictures and videos, because nobody really wants to watch a 30 second video just to see one or two spuds being launched, people want to see a lot of action.
Also, one of the ways that videos get a lot of views is through word of mouth (I think thats what its called). When people really like a video, they show it to their friends, who show it to their friends, etc.

Throw some calculations in there as well. Maybe show the calculations one would run through to find the appropriate amount of propane and oxygen to inject, then show the cannon firing. Show that there really is some amount of intelligence required so people will stop thinking we're a bunch of rednecks who want to blow stuff up.

Between the members here and your video skills IMO it could easily become the best spudgun video on youtube and get plenty of views.
I just checked it out (the one with the cool song?). Why you didn't give the link?
I am going to log into youtube and rate it the highest.
Maybe everyone could do that also and you could improve/replace it as this goes along. 8)

I think we need to get a final version figured out before we try getting everyone to rate it. Otherwise we're going to end up rating 5 videos each before it finally gets up.

Umm... Well, I'm a good video editor and producer. I would gladly help. However, I graduate in 3 weeks. This means I only have acess to good tools like iMovie, Audacity, Final Cut, and others for that long. After that I have to make due with Windows Movie Maker.
The first thing we need to do to advertise is write up a script and/or a story board. I'm thinking of displaying spudding as an exciting hobby enjoyed only by smart individuals. (on this site at least) I don't want to put a disclaimer claiming spudding as potentially dangerous but rather encourage proper methods of design, building and operation as shown on our site. Cannon examples are necessary in the video to give the foundation of the three main types of launchers. Interview type video clips are also needed answering FAQ's about this site and the hobby. Opinions are even better. We also need a good represenative to give this site a personality and a face. A senior member is needed of course, more likely a moderator to fill this task. We also want to give viewers the opportunity to build cool stuff like F.E.A.R., the Pen Gun, T-shirt guns, tennis ball guns, Paintball guns and airsoft guns. We should promise them that joining this site will offer knowledge to build what people buy, but only for a fraction of the cost. That is the basic layout that I would use. The targeted audience would be the intelligent and those who are more than willing to learn.
Actually now that I think of it, members should put testimonials about this site explaining what they like about it. I'll start.
"I like this site because there is no filler. All threads are relevant and I learn something new on every page. The community is serious and open minded. However the members are more than happy to answer any question no matter how basic."
Anyway. If you guys want, I can produce the advertisement. I will need clips of cannons, tesimonials, and interviews. I can put them together in an entertaining way so that potential members will see the potential of this site and join. But it's up to you guys if you want to make a youtube add or not.
