4.35 a gallon here in the greater seattle area(washington state/PNW) and still rising daily... the worst part is here is that I get a 16c a gallon tax exemption since I live on a military base, the average out in town is 4.51, which sucks!

dax- I to live in western WA and youforgot to mention that diesel is over $5.oo a gallon. And sadly my ford 6.0L only gets 14mpg. It cost me $140 to filler up yesterday!! when will it stop!!

I have a fellow that I know who just built a hydrogen cell for his car. Says it could increase his milage by 30%. At least that is what his brothers car got with a similar setup.
Would that work in my diesel? I know that propane is good in a diesel

propane's a widely used supplement for diesel trucks, just go with that. it's cheaper anyway.

Or, go the biodiesel route?

go biodiesel, one of my best friends from my hometown in florida converted his, and he pays nothing for gas, just cleans the fryer waste tanks at all the local fast food joints... which saves them money too since they would otherwise have to pay someone to remove it... the exhaust smells amazing too, like MCDs at lunch...

So what would be the best alternative fuel?

Natural Gas?
Ethanol?
Vegetable Oils?
Hydrogen?

Let's hear your ideas people.

They could fix the red lights to be more efficient.
But why? The whole time cars are sitting there they're burning gas and paying more taxes on it.

Same thing with the seat belt laws. They're not there to save lives, but to save insurance companies money. So when someone gets in an accident it costs them less in medical bills.

Even the "food pyramid". Saying to eat five times as much bread as everything else is supposed to be healthy. That's only because bread is the cheapest so the gov't run institutions pay less to feed people.
Etc....
Every Government action is about one thing ($).

Where I live (in Maryland) gas just dropped 2 cents, it is now $5.02 at the cheapest station in my area.

That's what hydrogen is! H2O they use an electrical current to seperate the molicules and the hydrogen is then piped into the intake.

Compressed air. You can fill your car up at home for $2 worth of electricity.

Hey JR I am working on making my car run on hydrogen. I have the cell built but am hesitating on actually using it.

Hovers between $1.38 and $1.42/L in North-Eastern Ontario, but I've seen it go as high as $1.51/L

Just my .02 here;

I played with biodiesel, its a neat and easy process, but seriously, its only an option on a small scale, using WASTE cooking oils.

If we were to trade food crops for fuel crops, we would be able to drive, but not eat. Doesn't sound so good to me.

Converting energy alway incurs losses, so I would have to rule out anything that used electricity to generate another type of "fuel".

I believe that the direction to head in is straight electric.

We already have the technology to produce an electric automobile which would satisfy the NEEDS of the majority of the planets population.

Actually, we had it several years ago with the EV1, and many other electric auto's that were removed from our streets for "some" reason. :?

Again, just my .02

Edit: And to actually be on topic, the price of gas is 1.32 point 9 at present.
