1" Piston

Hello, I want to make my first piston, but I want to make it in a 1" tee...would that be too small or would there be a piston small enough to fit, AND actually work inside the tee? And I know this is like...my third topic in a couple of days, but this time I searched for 1" pistons and I couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance!

If JSR can make a piston smaller than a pen diameter, then you can make a 1 inch piston.

just make sure the barrel it is sealing on is smaller then the dia of the piston.

Which makes no sense if you know what you are doing. Judging by this topic, and a bunch of your other ones, you still have quite a bit to learn.


I suggest you lock yourself away in the Pneumatic Cannon Showcase section for a few days and don't come out till you understand how to build a piston, because all these topics by you are getting on the verge of ridiculousness.

That's how I learnt pistons, so I recommend you do it too. There's gonna be a time when people are going to get sick of your incoherent questions.

I know how to build one, I just don't know what I should use...

That's the beauty about pistons, you can use ANYTHING.


There is no 'set' piston, you can make a piston from anything you want. Though for 1" pistons wooden dowling works well, you'll have to find out what size though, just go to the hardware store with a piece of 1" pipe.

If it's too big, just sand it down.

Just FYI, I've made 1 1" piston in PVC housing and am working on another in a galvanized steel nipple. They each use the washer on a bolt design, and the first one at least works well enough to be piloted easily by a blowgun. Here's a link that shows the basic design:

Alright, I have come back after two days, and I have decided to make a 2" tee instead, and my piston will be a 1 1/4" coupler. I've seen on many people's pistons, a black rubber disk thing on the top of their piston...what is that?

But that is the sealing face, so the piston can seal against the seat.
