P.S. Did anyone else have dirty ideas when they read the title?
I doubt seriously if the inhabitants even knew what hit them...concussion would probably have knocked them out if not killed them instantly....and..not particularly....

Not half.

I doubt the gunner and loader had much time to worry about that considering where the holes are.

Couldn't have been much better for the rest of the crew with three rounds ricochetting about in there.

If there was enough left afterwards...
Only noticed it after believe it or not
Either, you're lying or you're losing your touch. Neither is a good thing. :P

EDIT: Silly mistake mixing up forum tags.

I feel sorry for the people who had to clean out the mess to put it on display. Nice pics Jack. A more indepth slide show of your trip would be great if you can find the time. Very interesting.

has anyone heard of that new armour? It's a thin sheet over the armour, but its active. When something hits it, it explodes, countering the blow.

I tried making body armour out of that stuff - I'm not sure it actually helps you know. :P

Of course, next thing I knew I was trying to explain down a megaphone to the nice armed policemen why my explosive vest would only explode if they didn't stop shooting...
So if any official looking types come round asking why a riot van with three unconscious armed response teams shoved into it at odd angles was just reversed through a cop shop wall at high speed, you've never heard of me, all right?

:D

First off, when it comes to penetrating, I have my own ideas...

Second...This is not a tank.It´s a mobile cannon.
This did not have the kind of armour a main battle tank would have had.
Especially not on the sides..

This thing was probably taken out by my grandpa with a pneumatic sawed-off.He passed his knowlegde down to me.

Okay...that's not entirely true.. :D

More from my tour of the museum:

Image

Standing several storeys high, a massive A4 rocket, one of Hitler's "wonder weapons" and the first practical ballistic missile.

Image

The original "tank", a British Mark V from World War 1

Image

Massive 7 ton shell fired by this monster, the largest gun ever built.

Image

A Russian designed T-34/85 with a colourful history, it was built in Czechoslovakia in 1955 then captured by the Israelis during one of its wars with neighbouring Arab states.

Image

Matlida tank.

Image

"little boy", identical to the second atomic bomb dropped on Japan.

Image

5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 38 anti-tank gun

Image

Interestingly named Sherman tank *giggle*

Image

1,650lb bomb from World War 1, almost comical in appearance

Image

Krummlauf bent barrel and periscope attachment made for shooting around corners

Image

Sectioned Armour Piercing Composite Rigid shell, a poor excuse to show some wartime porn :D

Image

A fin from the Messerschmitt Me110 flown by Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, displaying his impressive tally of 121 Allied aircraft shot down during night combat

Image

Colt M1911 with crudely customised grips, more porn *sigh*

Image

The cost of war - the hand makes a complete revolution every few seconds, adding another number to the digital counter, another ongoing casualty of war

Image

Looks like "Engrish" has been around for longer than we thought - this Chinese copy of the notorious Tommy gun is marked as the "Thampson" submachinegun hehe

Image

The rotary engine from the Fokker triplane in which the Red Baron met his end

Image

Italian helmet from World War One, leaving little doubt as to the fate of its last owner

Image

Steel plate from HMS Barham penetrated by a 12 inch shell

Image

Daimler armoured car

Image

The business end of the Lancaster bomber, featuring twin 0.303 Browning machineguns in an automatic turret

Image

Bofors 40mm cannon,

Image

Welrod integrally suppressed pistol, I don't know what I'd give to own one *drool*

Image

Equally desirable is the uppermost of this trio of rifles, the DeLisle integrally suppressed carbine

Image

Chevrolet truck used by the Long Range Desert Group in North Africa during World War Two, displayed in the condition in which it was found in 1980

Image

The Sopwith Camel, quintissential World War One fighter plane

Image

Focke Wulf 190, premier Nazi fighter-bomber...

Image

... and its main rival, the NA P-51 Mustang

Image

The legendary '88, tank killer supreme

Image

The V1 flying bomb, the world's first cruise missile and yet another German innovation.
