I should really update this thing.......

i DO NOT RECCOMEND a schrader valve as a check valve. its inneficient and you HAVE to epoxy it in. and pumps get hot. VERY HOT. and epoxy gets SOFT when it gets HOT. its a bad combo when you put 300 PSI on one end.

what i used for a check valve once that failed was a little rubber ball i found and an 1/8 inch pipe nipple, screwed into two 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch Galvanized steel reducers. it works great, and i havent had a problem with it yet.

I will Post a pic if youd like.

and PM me with any questions. I will answer them to the best of my ability

Kind of a weird idea but...

For a check valve could one use a spring loaded ball valve that was only activated by a notch that would index it at about 95% stroke. After 99% of the stroke was complete the notch would have passed the ball valve and it would reset, so you could pull the lever back up and then there could be another ball valve on the top lever that would only open on the up stroke. Sorry if im not explaining it right, but it would make high pressure pumps easier to make for alot of people who either don't feel like making a check valve (me) or or can't. I'm pretty sure my idea would work, but I still would need to have a really good sealing o-ring. Any suggestions on the size o-ring for common 1/2" copper?

Check valves are easy to make. Why complicate something that is so simple?

for reference

hahaha. That was a little thing to keep the piston rod inline with the pipe while i was pumping. its a socket wrench thingie. it basically served no actual purpouse. its blue because its wrapped in tape to try to make it fit in the cylinder.

it has been replaced with a pump shaft that fits inside the copper nicely.........

Hmmm I'm looking to make an extreme pressure pump, my homemade 350psi pump isn't doing it for me anymore... I've got all the parts for the new small bore pump but I can't find the right fitting o-ring.....very annoying...

Anyway nice pump mate, very well done

Because of heat? Solution wet rag near check on the outside of the pump.
You can tell how awesome a cannon is by the pressure used.
