need a valve

ok, so here is the deal. I am working on a portable spud gun that is chambered in .68 caliber. I have everything built and this bad boy is ready to rock except for one very big detail, it needs a valve.

this is where i was hoping you guys could come in and help me. I need a valve that would be very easy to attach to a piece of pvc pipe that has 1" ID.
any ideas gentlemen?

1" modded sprinkler valve. Nice easy and simply with plenty of power for a .68 caliber

Use a ball valve, that is simple enough. It would be even better with a sprinkler valve or QEV. Research it.

i have looked into ball valves, they are far to difficult to open to be practical for my situational needs. i had also thought of the sprinkler valve but the cost is a down fall and never even thought of a QEV

I'd recomend you build yourself a piston valve. They're strong, easy to open, and are the most bang for your buck.

A sprinkler valve is going to be your best option for your paintball, er, potato gun. Save the money and go that route.

If you want to try your hand at a piston, you can, but I just sugget the sprinkler.

I recommend a sprinkler. I personally am more than capable of making a piston vavle but haven't really wanted to build one and I find that sprinkler valves are quite good. One thing I do recommend however is that if you do use a sprinkler valve, make the nipples going into the valve steel. I find that the place sprinkler valve guns break the most is there. Its also a PITA to try and get the threads back out. So just use something like a PVC female threaded (chamber size) to 1" bushing -- 1" steel male-male nipple -- sprinkler valve-- Steel nipple -- barrel (same configuration as the chamber but the size of your barrel)

I have actually had it happen twice with an inline and a 1" bore barrel.
