Question about o-rings- URGENT!!!!

I have to finish my t-shirt launcher TONIGHT and have a question about the o-ring i have in the back of the tee- this bushing will slide into the back and will be bolted into the tee so i can open it up for maintenance.

What i'm wondering is if the o-ring is too far down in the slot and won't form a good seal, so i need a reply fast.

Nope, its not too far down, it should make an excelent seal . And good luck on your T-Shirt launcher.

looks to me that is it too far in. it needs to extend to a larger diameter than that of your bushing. If not, it won't contact to socket your inserting it into and create a seal.

Yeah, at the top of the picture it looks well below the bushing and will probably leak out there if so.

I think your groove is too deep.

As it's going to be bolted in, you could try it as is first.

You might be able to fix it by putting several wraps of teflon tape in the groove under the o-ring.

I kindof have a question pertaining to this:

If the o ring is too big, (like in a o-ring grooved piston), how does it fit in the housing? (I encountered this problem alot with my o-ring attempted pistons).

It's pretty much an art to get the o-ring groove perfect. You really need a lathe to get the depth exact, without a lathe you may need a mallet and a lot of lube

Rubber is soft and it will squish down to fit and in turn create a better seal.

yea i'll add some teflon to it- turns out it got postponed so i have a couple more days to work on it.

what are some of the good lubes out there?

And this groove was cut with a drill So its not the perfect depth.... hahaha

I've heard of lithium grease as being particularly good.
